Eat Breakfast Like a Local

My favorite meal of the day is breakfast, and the choices available to you in Old Town Puerto Vallarta are plentiful.   Whether you just need a morning jolt of caffeine and a piece of pan dulce (traditional Mexican pastry), a Mexican inspired breakfast of ‘Chilaquiles Rojos con Huevo’ (fried tortillas with red chili sauce and egg… perfect for hangovers), or a typical American meal with eggs, bacon, and pancakes, you’ll find everything you need within walking distance of your condo.   Did I already mention breakfast is my favorite meal of the day?

5 minute walk

Fredy’s Tucan

Anyone who’s in the know comes here.  Fast and friendly service, with over 70 items to choose from. Insider tip, they have a daily selection of homemade pan dulce that is offered tableside.  All are delicious.  They don’t take reservations however, there is plenty of seating available with complimentary water while you wait.  Cash only and no reservations.

Cafe de Olla

A favorite breakfast (+ lunch & dinner!) spot for locals and tourists alike.  Friendly service in a pleasant atmosphere. There is a large tree is in the middle of the dining room, local artwork featured throughout, and music in the background, all while you enjoy authentic Mexican food (your typical American breakfast items can be found here too).  There is something for everyone here.  Insider tip, bring cash and get there early.  They don’t take reservation and it gets busy, especially during high season.

Pancake House

Known for their pancakes (ask for the pancake sandwich if you are really hungry), they also feature waffles, French toast, machaca burritos, and everything in between.  You have plenty of options to choose from, and no one goes hungry who comes here.  Insider tip, ask to sit on the patio if you want a quieter atmosphere to enjoy your breakfast, although keep in mind it does get warm.    No reservations or credit cards accepted.

Carnitas Tacos (food truck) across from Iglesia Santa Cruz

This is a true local spot, with some of the best tacos in downtown.   If you end up staying with us at Sea Salt Rentals, ask us about it and we will make sure you experience it, just like a local.

10 minute walk

La Palapa is everything great about Puerto Vallarta and then some.   Family owned and operated for over 50 years, it is an institution and a “must visit” whenever you are in PV.   Insider tip, ask for a table on the beach, and sink your toes into the sand while enjoying a mimosa; and check out the historical black & white photos of Puerto Vallarta on the hallway to the restroom.

Coco’s Kitchen

Start your morning with a jugo verde (green juice), followed by your choice of a wide selection of traditional and Mexican brunch items, all made with fresh ingredients.  We love the stuffed French toast with cream cheese and orange marmalade. Insider tip, ask to sit in the garden courtyard where it’s quieter and the atmosphere is more inviting.   It gets busy, so plan ahead and get here early to beat the crowd.

Mi Café

A go-to breakfast spot for locals and tourists.  Newly remodeled with the same great coffee, food, and service they have always been known for in Old Town.  Insider tip, go for the Mi Cafe breakfast which includes 2 eggs, bacon, pancakes or French toast, and a side of yogurt and fruit.   It’s more than enough to fill you up, but not enough that you won’t be able to take a dip in the pool following breakfast.
